New Day Cafe: Thorsday, I Think [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-10-12 Good morning, Cafe! smanatha is taking the morning off, so you get an extra shot of me. stop yer grumblin’, grab a cuppa and maybe a tasty thing, and let’s have some fun! First….an rather different Flaco sighting…. x I didn't find Flaco this morning, and it may be he didn't like being harassed by this Cooper's Hawk late yesterday! Flaco stood his ground and the angry hawk eventually flew off. 💪🦉💪#Flaco #CentralPark #birdcpp pic.twitter.com/I6VbiQlzjD — Above_96th (@Above96th) October 11, 2023 Thorsday, you say? Thor is that old god we named this day after. Thor is frequently referred to in place names, the day of the week Thursday bears his name (modern English Thursday derives from Old English þunresdæġ, 'Þunor's day'), and names stemming from the pagan period containing his own continue to be used today, particularly in Scandinavia. There’s a lot about the old guy we don’t often mention. Besides Old Norse Þórr, the deity occurs in Old English as Þunor, in Old Frisian as Thuner, in Old Saxon as Thunar, and in Old High German as Donar, all ultimately stemming from the Proto-Germanic theonym *Þun(a)raz, meaning 'Thunder'. These pics have nothing to do with Thor (so why did I find it in the Image Library while searching for his pics??) but they are so very cool!! This one could be Thor, for sure! My socks are charmed right off! Because the battle is real, when I found this little gem, I knew I’d have to share it! The definitive “How To Fold A Fitted Sheet” there are lots of interesting hacks on Jilly’s pages, so you might want to hang onto the link. This is a little “over the top” for grocery shopping, but….dang it is stunning! x 1920s Art Deco Cartier platinum , diamond , yellow diamond and pearl with emerald eye Swan choker pic.twitter.com/EolDgk39qs — Edward Elderman (@edwereddie) October 9, 2023 And for the “shoe loving contingent” in the crowd…. x 1930s Red silk and silver leather evening sandals with silk brocade ribbon. And finally…. x One day when he felt he couldn’t wait any longer, Rabbit brained out a Notice, and this is what it said: “Notice a meeting of everybody will meet at the House at Pooh Corner to pass a Rissolution By Order Keep to the Left Signed Rabbit.” ~A.A.Milne #leadership pic.twitter.com/gP5PN1UVc9 — A.A.Milne (@A_AMilne) October 11, 2023 New Day Cafe Is An Open Thread What would you like to talk about this morning?
