“Donald J. Trump is not unlike a one-man invasion of locusts that don’t leave until the land has been devastated. That may be an overstatement, but he really is a pain in the a.. that won’t go away.”

(If I were the publisher of a newspaper, this letter would be the sole content of the front page of my next edition)

Dear Mr. Trump,

We have recently reviewed our newspaper’s policies for news coverage and opinions. The basis for that review was to reassess our primary responsibility to the public to provide news coverage based on facts as determined by our best efforts; and, when appropriate, to express our opinion based on interpreting those facts.

The reason for that reassessment was that our paper had fallen into the hidden trap of providing “fair and balanced” news coverage. That trap was to overemphasize the “balanced” aspect (quantitative or equal coverage in terms of space); at the expense of the true meaning of “fair” (qualitative, providing facts, and not giving fiction equal stature by giving it equal time).

Unfortunately for our readers, and likely the Nation as a whole, this “unfair and unbalanced” approach to news coverage has gone unchallenged for far too long. As of today, this paper is no longer participating in this charade.

This letter is intended to inform you of the change in how we will assess and cover your future public actions and comments. Our position has no impact, nor does it intend to restrict your future actions or words, only on the objectivity we intend to apply in reporting on your activities.

The following examples will give you a better understanding of what our revised policy will mean in practice:
