Well, we tried but we went backwards in Louisiana [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-10-14 Well, we have several offices on the ballot this year. The Governor, Lt Governor, Secretary of State, Attorney General and Treasurer. Sadly, every single one of them went to a Republican. Of course, in terms of number of state-wide offices, this was not a huge number of loses (I am not counting any State Senate or House losses we might have had as Democrats but I am sure not that many). In fact it was only one. However, as might be expected, it was the BIG one...the Governor. Of course, we have to remember that only because Vitter was found to be involved in the DC Madame scandal resulting in the other Republicans that didn’t make the run-off throwing their support behind Edwards get that election. Sadly, the people of Louisiana weren’t angry enough because the Governor (Jindal) that almost bankrupted the entire state in the previous either years to vote Democratic, it took that sex scandal to do the job. But at least we had Edwards for eight years and he expanded medicaid among others things. He did some good things for the people of Louisiana, but now we are back in Republicans hands, and I don’t expect Landry to do anything at all for the people of Louisiana...well unless it is for the super-rich. They might benefit. Fortunately, we do still have our Orleans Parish safety zone where the politicians are more alert to what the people need rather than the super-rich. My main concern at this point is how much Landry is going to mess with New Orleans. We could just be in a Tennessee style war over the future of our livelihoods at some point under his “leadership.” Not sure whether he is MAGA cult member but he is fairly “conservative” which doesn’t bode well for the average citizen. Every person and thing I voted for inside the Parish went my way. The Secretary of State is the closest to going to Democratic control if there is a run-off which I think is likely. The other two run-offs are very likely to be solidly republican when it is over. AS to the Region: We were the only Southern State with a Democratic governor, and now until another is elected, there are none.
