[1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-10-14 Hey, call me crazy, but what if the MAGA caucus of the Republican party, right after upon securing their narrow majority in House, secretly met in a closed door pow-wow to concoct a plan to stymie and shut down government at all cost, rather than actually govern (because doing nothing is always far easier than doing something, right)? You know. Like they did when they met the night of Obama's inauguration. A meeting, incidentally, for which Kevin McCarthy was present. What if part of that plan was to nominate a speaker under the proviso that he'd be completely beholden to that caucus, to follow and obey their every whim, under penalty of political death should he or she fail to do so? What if the plan was also to hold firm on their determination to shutdown government, by proposing whatever demands they could conjure up, under the assumption that no Democrat would acquiesce to them, so that they, in turn, could blame Democrats for their own failure to govern - something which by now, they've become experts at... only to discover, to their complete and utter surprise that Democrats were smart enough not to fall into that particular trick-bag? That Democrats were willing to make SOME concessions, for the greater good. And what if McCarthy's actions, of putting country before his party's mean spirited and malicious politics, by avoiding their planned shutdown (albeit temporarily), got them so pissed, that they did exactly what they said they'd do should he (or any speaker for that matter) fail to toe their extremist MAGA line? Then, what if somewhere, between all of that and the task of nominating their next speaker, it hit upon (someone) that NOT having a speaker of the House would actually pretty much accomplish the same thing they wanted to do in the first place - sabotage the legislative body of America's government? What if that's the reason why Steve Scalise just up and withdrew his name from consideration... because someone told him (or he found out) there WAS no plan to nominate a speaker? What if?? What if all of this hubbub of finding the next speaker is just an act - a "freedom" caucus pantomime of a democratic process whose real aim is to go absolutely NOWHERE? THAT'D be crazy, wouldn't it? And heaven knows that the MAGA extremists in the Republican party aren't crazy... are they?
