After 3 Shot, People Flee in Horror at State Fair of Texas, Which Allows Licensed Concealed Carry [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-10-15 Real quick but this is important. Three people were shot and an unknown amount injured, after shots were fired at the food court of the State Fair of Texas. Dallas Police said that based on preliminary information, a man shot another man, and three other people were struck by gunfire at the Tower building. The gunman tried to flee the scene on foot before authorities apprehended him, and officers were also able to recover a gun, according to DPD. The victims are expected to survive their injuries. Dallas City Councilmember Adam R. Bazaldua of District 7 tweeted Saturday that the shooting happened at the fair's food court and was sparked by a conflict between two people who knew each other. "It's one thing to have a right to bear arms; it's another to have legislation, like permit-less carry, that makes it easier for senseless acts of gun violence like this to be carried out in our state," said Bazaldua. While reporters don't realize, how weapons got into the State Fair of Texas, the reality is quite simple. It is probably just best to let Big Tex speak for himself. The State Fair of Texas has long been, and continues to be, a strong supporter of the rights of responsible gun owning Texans. For that reason, the Fair has long allowed Fair attendees with valid handgun licenses to carry their handguns in a concealed manner while attending the Fair (except for locations prohibited by law). The State Fair will not allow unlicensed gun owners to enter the fairgrounds with a firearm. A person holding a valid Texas License to Carry a Handgun (LTC), or a valid handgun license from a reciprocating state, is permitted to enter the Fair with his or her concealed handgun, provided that he or she thereafter fully complies with all applicable laws. LTC holders are responsible for knowing and complying with all applicable Texas laws. For example, under Texas Penal Code Chapter 46 an LTC holder is prohibited from carrying a handgun (1) on any other premises where a high school, collegiate, or professional sporting event or interscholastic event is taking place (this may include Cotton Bowl Stadium, as well as the State Fair’s livestock facilities where interscholastic events are presented), (2) on the premises of a business that derives 51 percent or more of its income from the sale or service of alcoholic beverages for on-premises consumption, or (3) while intoxicated. We know that this is an important issue for many Texans, and that the Fair’s decision may disappoint potential fairgoers who regularly and responsibly practice open carry. However, the Fair strongly believes that allowing concealed carry and prohibiting open carry is a reasonable compromise that best ensures the safety and comfort of all Fair attendees. Before anybody questions the fleeing in horror in the title, take a look: What is unfathomable, is the geniuses running this fair say that just not being able to see the gun is a "compromise." I feel safer already. They apologize to the open carry advocates, not the sane among us that you know, don’t feel comfortable walking around thousands of potentially armed people. This sort of density mixed with firearms is reckless to the extreme. I wonder how many of those thousands of attendees knew this policy. Even more bizarre is the complete confusion over the new weapons detections systems introduced this season. So while reporters are asking cluelessly, "how could this happen?" I would point out, it is on their website. It's called the internet. Believe it or not, sometimes it leads you to the truth. -ROC Mrs. Claw and I both would like to extend our heartfelt thanks for your support! You are all family.
