Community: Your go-to place for lively discourse, debate, or so I thought [1]

Wow, I have to admit that after I got the kind of grilling I got yesterday (Oct. 14, 2023) in response to my “A calming voice in the climate-change age” entry from some in the Community Diary space, that maybe I’m just not getting this whole “diarist” bit.

The way I see “Community” is as a human-interest-story telling soapbox or a roundtable, if you will. Apparently not.

I mean, after all, in this appealing-to-the-left media device, you’ve got your various columns like: your “Trending Stories,” your “Latest Community Stories,” your “More Recent News,” your “Daily Kos Elections,” your “More Communities Stories,” etc., etc., etc., sections.

To me, “Community” means just that: a kind of “go-to place” or “one-stop-shop” for so-called “community members” to engage in lively discourse and debate. In other words: A platform from which the average Joe and Jane can more or less share what’s on our minds. Wow, in hindsight, after yesterday’s post, it appears I was way off base.

And, what’s more, I guess I don’t get this “diarist” bit. To me, a diary is like a journal or record or account an individual keeps of their personal life’s noteworthy experiences or happenings so to speak, documented in hardcopy form, a reference to go back to, to refer to, whenever. To me, that’s what a diary is. Honestly, I have yet to fully figure out and appreciate what the word “diarist” means in the Daily Kos context. Maybe I never will. Sorry.

In the meantime and if it’s all the same to you, I intend to keep on doing what I’ve been doing. And, that is to post what I feel in the human-interest vein is important to me and worth sharing in the public domain. Not to be insulting, meaning with all due respect, now there’s a term — “public domain,” that I can most definitely relate to. And, for anyone who wishes to chime in, by all means go ahead. The more there are interacting and participating, the better. Like one big, happy “Community”! Right?
