Colorado Matters; A Colorado State Open Thread, 10/16/2023 [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-10-16 It has been awhile since I spent time on Colorado issues — politics, news, events, get-togethers, etc. I will mention a few here and I’d love to read your comments. Colorado seems to be Ground Zero for challenging the right of Donald Trump to appear on the ballot in Colorado for the race for President. A number of states have lawsuits filed, but it seems Colorado was first and our lawsuit seems to be the one most mentioned in the national press. I received this email today, from Jena Griswold, Colorado’s Secretary of State, sent through her campaign account, not the SOS office. TIM, Donald Trump incited the January 6th insurrection and attempted to overturn the 2020 Presidential election. Last month, a lawsuit was filed to determine whether former President Trump’s actions disqualify him from the Colorado ballot. The 14th Amendment of the United States Constitution says that anyone who swore an oath to the Constitution and then engaged in “insurrection or rebellion” or “given aid or comfort to the enemies” of the Constitution is disqualified from office. There are many questions about how this provision works. This is an extraordinary situation that we haven’t seen before as a nation. A sitting president incited an insurrection, and now there are constitutional questions about whether he is disqualified from the Colorado ballot. I look to the Colorado Court’s substantive resolution of the issues, and I am hopeful that this case will provide guidance to election officials on Trump’s eligibility as a candidate for office. It is important to me to make sure Americans have facts about our elections and this important lawsuit. You can see my explanation of the lawsuit in these interviews: PBS News Hour, The Reid Out, and Deadline Whitehouse. In addition to this lawsuit, Trump faces criminal charges for his attempts to steal the 2020 election and the right to vote from the American people. The American people have chosen democracy over chaos time and again in recent years, and they will have to do so again in the coming months during the presidential election. The future of our nation is still on the line as we enter 2024. Stay up-to-date on the lawsuit by following me on Facebook, Twitter, Threads and Instagram. Thank you, Jena Griswold Colorado Secretary of State I would love for this to be decided against TFG, but in any case, it will be appealed to the Supreme Court, I feel, so this won’t be over for months. On another issue, Texas has now bussed more than 3200 migrants to Denver, which equals the amount bussed to Philadelphia. Colorado, in turn, has bussed many of the migrants to Chicago and New York City, though I presume it was with their knowledge, unlike the stories coming from the migrants who were stuck on busses without being told where they were going and that jobs would be waiting for them at the other end of their trip. There’s a diary from yesterday that talks about solar power that’s written by a Boulder Kosack — www.dailykos.com/… that I will recommend to you. I also am considering a solar setup on my roof here in Estes, but I will need to verify that I won’t need to cut trees just to have solar power. I have to pay extra to XCel if I want to have solar power from a shared power plant of panels, which just seems wrong to me. I just returned from Kansas having taken my Plug-In-Hybrid there and back. It didn’t give me the mpg I had been hoping for, but it was also tough to tell just what the mpg were. The car kept track of trip mileage, but that was from power on to power off. IOW, from when I started to when I stopped. Stopping at gas stations and rest stops or even stores if I went in would reset the trip odometer. I need to figure out if I can have a regular trip odometer, or if I need to manually record the overall car mileage and calculate it from there. There are a number of things I still need to read instructions for — the car has lots of buttons and computerization compared to my 12 year old VW. Well, we still haven’t scheduled a group trip to the Wild Animal Sanctuary in Keenesburg. Another idea I had was seeing if anyone else wanted to go see the play Dracula at one of the off-broadway theaters in Denver (Helen Hand theater) which is showing through the 28th. It could be fun and I know we have a theater fan or two among the Kosacks in Denver. Either idea for a group meeting would be good, but we have to act quickly, before the snow hits. The floor is now open for you. Let’s hear what is of interest to you this late October day. You might even want to boast about what costumes you might wear for Halloween.
