New Day Cafe: Wednesday Whimsy With A Whiff Of Weird [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-10-18 Good morning, Newdists! Grab a cuppa and a nice nosh, and come along for some whimsical nonsense! Nobody in my family smoked cigars, but my father bought his smokes from a tobacconist who let him have some cigar boxes for my brother and me. I still have a twin to this one and a wooden cigar box, in a different shape. They are made for kids to keep treasures in! x My uncle was a cigar smoker, so I had my little treasure box. Kept all my valuables in it like my rabbits foot, my beautiful stones, a couple of sea shells, Cape May, diamonds that I found on the beach. I knew one day they would make me rich. 😂 Wrong! Did you have a cigar box? pic.twitter.com/aPB6GExnss — Jerseygirl #FBR 🟧 (@gggirl924) October 12, 2023 Why knot?? x can anyone tell me what kind of mushroom this is? pic.twitter.com/zUAOR6HbYu — Clandestine Omelette (@Clandestine_Om) October 16, 2023 My beloved Baltimore Orioles didn’t get to the World Serious, as mum called it, but this news cheers me right up! x The Olympics officially announced that baseball has been added as a sport to the 2028 Summer Games in Los Angeles ⚾️YEA! pic.twitter.com/EeIyAXlELr — Craig Blue #FBR 🇺🇦 🟧💙☀️ (@HCraigBlue) October 16, 2023 This is just….charming! x On this day in 1893, silent superstar Lillian Gish was born in Springfield, Ohio. I'd wondered if the silents had scripts with dialogue to memorize or if they just gave a general sense of what to say. I wrote to Lillian Gish - pushing 95 - and received this remarkable reply. pic.twitter.com/OHqmQnh7MW — Steve Stoliar (@StoliarSteve) October 14, 2023 I would LOVE to replace my small sofa with this….but I know I’d talk myself out of it because it’s just not practical. It would take me a few weeks to talk me out of it, though!! x Come join me on my meowch. pic.twitter.com/rQtIYJk2fY — Karen Dippity (@karen_dippity) October 12, 2023 Art for art’s sake??? x "Paint my child but make her look as though she's working on the door at an east end boozer." What started in yesterday’s Cafe, with the mystery of Marie Antoinette’s shoe is continued here. I’ll start with this... x On the anniversary of Marie Antoinette’s execution, here are some #frockingFabulous pages from her 1782 wardrobe book. Each page represents an outfit, with fabric swatches. When MA chose her outfit for the day, legend has it she stuck a pin in the page! https://t.co/cQAGgoupFf pic.twitter.com/FQJ78yenR9 — Catherine Curzon (@MadameGilflurt) October 16, 2023 THIS is what kicked it off….what happened to her other shoe?? Drop an answer in the comments….the sillier, the better! x Marie Antoinette was executed on this day in 1793. This single shoe that once belonged to the queen sold at auction in 2020 for a whopping £38,000. The silk and kidskin shoe is inscribed “Soulier de Marie-Antoinette donné à M. de Voisey”.#frockingfabulous via Osenet. pic.twitter.com/kgAiUsZzil — Catherine Curzon (@MadameGilflurt) October 16, 2023 New Day Cafe Is An Open Thread What’s on your mind this morning?
