Second House Vote and Still No Speaker [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-10-18 The Democrats nominated Hakeem Jeffries and stayed unified. Jeffries received the most votes at 212, but still short of the required 217. Jim Jordan received 199 votes. Obviously a lot of of defections on the Republican side. Steve Scalise received 7 votes, Kevin McCarthy received 5 votes (although both McCarthy and Scalise voted for Jim Jordan). Another 10 votes were split among various others who received one to three votes votes each. The House right now is still in session, with folks wandering around. Now in recess.
