Ghana- The Small Killers [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-10-19 I thought I should write up something about John in Ghana before the week is over but not much to say right now. Plenty going on but mostly we’re just waiting. The biggest news is that Favour, our seventeen year old Nigerian girl, is about to give birth. She’s still homeless and sleeping under a table. Babies come when they come and she was already nine months pregnant when she came to John for help. That was some weeks ago now. So it could be at any time. John has given her some money for food and he is trying to find a place for her to stay. I’m not sure if she has any support network or not but of course we will do everything we can for her when the time comes. Very worried for her and excited too. A new life is a beautiful thing and something to be celebrated, even in these difficult circumstances. Pray God nothing goes wrong for her or for her new child. Our friends Zenabu and Haddi and their ten month old little girl Vicky are getting along. Struggling a bit financially but no illnesses and they have a place to stay, so that is good. In earlier diaries I talked about how difficult Zenabu’s pregnancy had been but they made it through and now they have a beautiful little family. John went to visit them yesterday and took them a small offering of money to help with the baby. He took photos but I haven't had a chance to see them yet. If they are good enough I will share them here or on our website. Otherwise, worried about some folks, trying to do what we can, but this is the major news of the week. No one is sick, so that is the main thing. - The photo above is of the Small Killers, a dance group made up of five boys aged 16-18 who live on the beach in Accra, though they are not homeless. They dance at parties, birthdays and other celebrations for tips and donations. They had an opportunity to demonstrate their abilities at the show John put on a few months ago to give poor kids who want to be entertainers a chance to perform and be seen. They seem like good kids. The last time John was in the hospital they came to visit him. There are more photos of them at our website www.p9foundation.com but I don’t know how to post them here. Check the blogs. This is pretty much the update for now. We are all holding on. - On a more personal note, for those who may be concerned about my son in prison who almost lost his only connection to the outer world, his phone that a friend had smuggled in to him, I am happy to say he managed to keep his phone. The guard who caught him agreed to take a bribe to give the phone back and not turn him in to the authorities. So we live to fight another day. Thank God for greed and corruption! God bless.
