The pathological tree of belief [1]

This morning I read this story on Raw Story: Failed MAGA candidate melts down at Taylor Swift: 'You’re celebrating witchcraft' and it got me thinking. How is it that people can actually believe in witchcraft? Here is how my logic kicked in and I discovered “my” answer:

If people believe in God, then they must believe the Bible.

If people believe the Bible, then they must believe in Saints and Angels

If people believe in Angels, then they must believe in the fallen angel Lucifer or Satan

If they believe in Satan, then they must believe there is a Hell

If they believe in Hell, then they must believe in Daemons

If they believe in Daemons, then they must believe in Possession.

If they believe in Possession, then they must believe bodies can float, people can talk in tongues, heads can rotate 360 degrees around, and that shit that defies the laws of physics can happen.

If they believe in things that can defy the laws of Physics, then they must believe in magic

If they believe in magic, then they must believe in Witches

If they believe in witches, then they must believe in witchcraft

If they believe in witchcraft, then they must believe in spells, potions and curses

If they believe in curses then they must believe that Egyptian tombs are cursed

If Egyptian tombs are cursed they probably believe in Mummies

If they believe that mummies exist then they probably believe that vampires exist

If the believe that vampires exist then they probably believe that werewolves exist.

If they believe that werewolves exist, then they are absolutely delusional.

(Although, I really loved it when Enid finally wolfed out to save the day on Wednesday)

I remember having a really good laugh when I heard that people were boycotting the Harry Potter movies and books because they promoted witchcraft. But the box office numbers told me that either a lot of these people ignored the boycott, or they recognize works of fiction as entertainment and not instructions on how to perform magic. I mean no matter how many sticks I pick up, swish, flick, and say Wingardium Leviosa nothing floats in the air except my tiniest bit of disappointment. I have yet to find a person that can make anything float that is not an illusion. But okay, believe in witchcraft and magic if you must.

Now for those of you who say, ahhhh NO, your logic is flawed, I agree. Even my husband the Priest does not believe in Hell. How that works, I am not sure. We don’t talk religion because I am a non-believer and I personally believe that anyone that believes in an invisible man from over 2000 years has all the answers, is deluding themselves. But hey, witchcraft huh…. Ya, I believed that when I was a kid, I got smarter. I have to wonder why we elect people that still believe in childish things.
