Divesting DailyKos from X/Twitter [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-10-20 According to SimliarWeb, DailyKos.com now sends 15 percent of its total outgoing traffic to X/Twitter. This makes X the largest single website we have sent traffic to over the last year. The image above lists the top sites that DailyKos sent US desktop web traffic to over the last year. In contrast: DailyKos gets BELOW a .1 percent of incoming traffic FROM X/Twitter. It's so low that Simliarweb doesn’t list it. To put that into perspective: DailyKos gets far more incoming traffic from Flipboard, NextDoor, Post.news, Bluesky, and Threads than it does from X. Even Gab.com is sending more traffic to DailyKos than X. Given Markos' (I think correct) view about X, here…. It feels like it’s absolutely time to divest of X for the DailyKos community, start building out our social graphs on places like Mastodon, or Threads or BlueSky, and integrate those places into the UX of DialyKos for social sharing tools, etc. And good to see Markos posting off of X here. There is no need to give Eleon even one more click of monetizable social activity from the DailyKos community. I also posted before the idea of what a DailyKos Mastodon server could look like to help with this idea. Even moving DailyKos to Threads, which claims it will join the Fediverse shortly, would be a far better place to send traffic to than Elon’s “God-forsaken Hell Hole” the site has become. And you can follow me on Mastodon here, and on Threads here.
