FTX and the "Dems got his money" - it was all a shell game [1]

CNBC is reporting here that prosecutor documents in the FTX criminal trial show that Brinkman-Fried and FTX donated at least $50 million to dark money organizations during the 2020 election. The key point here is:

Bankman-Fried said in an interview last year that he gave what he called “dark” contributions because he didn’t want the public to know that he was giving money to Republican-leaning organizations. While Bankman-Fried quietly funded more conservative dark money groups behind the scenes, he publicly cultivated a profile that was clearly aligned with the Democratic Party. ... Ryan Salame, who was the CEO of FTX’s digital markets division, donated millions of dollars to Republican political action committees and affiliated “dark money” groups with funds from FTX’s affiliated hedge fund, Alameda Research, according to the documents.

Yup, it appears the crypto bros want to be seen as the cool kids and get invited to the good parties while financing the downfall of America. Quell Surprise!

The article further details that FTX has a private channel for SBF to indicate to Salame where these donations should go.

Specific donations were listed:

Bankman-Fried donated $10 million to a McConnell-linked group named One Nation in August 2022, according to the evidence filed by prosecutors. The money came directly from an Alameda Research account, prosecutors said.

The also point out multimillion dollars donations to the American Action Network, the American Prosperity Alliance, and Defending America Together. This is a “who’s who” of organizations dedicated to getting the worst of the GQP elected (Defending America Together was a big Tuberville backer).

GQP Senator linked dark money groups — American Leadership Fund (Daines), Bastion Institute (Ernst) — were in the tens and hundreds of thousands of dollars range.

So much for the “see, crypto thieves are Dems” storyline. The article does note that SBF donated about $36 million to Dems, all in publicly disclosed donations. Donate Dems for cover, donate to the GQP in the shadows. Yup, Citizens United at work again. And the MSM ate it up hook, line, and sinker.
