Top Comments: Notebook #92: A gratitude list [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-10-20 Here at Top Comments we welcome longtime as well as brand new Daily Kos readers to join us at 10pm Eastern. We strive to nourish community by rounding up some of the site's best, funniest, most mojo'd & most informative commentary, and we depend on your help!! If you see a comment by another Kossack that deserves wider recognition, please send it either to topcomments at gmail or to the Top Comments group mailbox by 9:30pm Eastern. Please please please include a few words about why you sent it in as well as your user name (even if you think we know it already :-)), so we can credit you with the find! Between yet another brief visit to the ER (with an overnight stay and on a medical issue unrelated to having type 1 diabetes), all of the political news (which has been bad and good), and some family drama, I have a lot to take in for the week. And I have a lot to be grateful for as well. I mean, I know about the importance attached to gratitude by various spiritual, religious, and even psychological...shall we call them styles of living. And I do tend to be grateful even if that gratitude is more of a knot somewhere in the back of my mind as opposed to me actively being grateful and acting like it. But I still tend to lean on the side of chronically complaining about nearly everything. Honestly, I get sick of myself sometimes. So...since I feel the need to realize that I’m grateful right now… 1) I am grateful for my sobriety. 2) I am grateful to have not one but two jobs; one that I consider to be my vocation and another job that I actually like. 3) I am grateful for the friends that I have. 4) I am grateful for the ability to tap into a community like Daily Kos. I do count a few of the people that I know primarily from this blog to be friends. 5) I am grateful not to know what tomorrow will bring. (Which connects to the first reason that I listed for being grateful.) Because my life over 27 years ago was mired in a rut where pretty much I knew how my days and nights were going to go. I try to be open now to what a day will bring and there’s not a day nowadays that something does not surprise me in some way, shape, form, of fashion. Comments below the fold. TOP COMMENTS Brillig's ObDisclaimer: The decision to publish each nomination lies with the evening's Diarist and/or Comment Formatter. My evenings at the helm, I try reeeeallllyy hard to publish everything without regard to content. I really do, even when I disagree personally with any given nomination. "TopCommentness" lies in the eyes of the nominator and of you, the reader - I leave the decision to you. I do not publish self-nominations (ie your own comments) and if I ruled the world, we'd all build community, supporting and uplifting instead of tearing our fellow Kossacks down. Please remember that comment inclusion in Top Comments does not constitute support or endorsement by diarist, formatter, Top Comments writers or DailyKos. Questions, complaints or comments? Contact brillig. From Paul A: I nominate The Geogre’s comment in Chitown Kev’s Friday Abbreviated Pundit Roundup, in which he examines North Dakota Republican state legislator Brandon Prichard’s latest posturings. It is diary-worthy in and of itself, and comes complete with footnotes! Highlighted by blastrock: This comment by rebel ga (trigger warning: explicit description of gunshot injuries) in Lefty Coaster’s recommended post describing how the three-year-old son of an N. C. pastor shot his 2-year-old little brother in the head with his father’s gun.) TOP MOJO Top Mojo for yesterday, Thursday, October 19, 2023, first comments and tip jars excluded.
