Antisemitism right the hell here [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-10-21 The IHRA defines antisemitism as follows: “Antisemitism is a certain perception of Jews, which may be expressed as hatred toward Jews. Rhetorical and physical manifestations of antisemitism are directed toward Jewish or non-Jewish individuals and/or their property, toward Jewish community institutions and religious facilities.” The IHRA then helpfully provides a non-exclusive list of examples: Contemporary examples of antisemitism in public life, the media, schools, the workplace, and in the religious sphere could, taking into account the overall context, include, but are not limited to: Calling for, aiding, or justifying the killing or harming of Jews in the name of a radical ideology or an extremist view of religion. Making mendacious, dehumanizing, demonizing, or stereotypical allegations about Jews as such or the power of Jews as collective — such as, especially but not exclusively, the myth about a world Jewish conspiracy or of Jews controlling the media, economy, government or other societal institutions. Accusing Jews as a people of being responsible for real or imagined wrongdoing committed by a single Jewish person or group, or even for acts committed by non-Jews. Denying the fact, scope, mechanisms (e.g. gas chambers) or intentionality of the genocide of the Jewish people at the hands of National Socialist Germany and its supporters and accomplices during World War II (the Holocaust). Accusing the Jews as a people, or Israel as a state, of inventing or exaggerating the Holocaust. Accusing Jewish citizens of being more loyal to Israel, or to the alleged priorities of Jews worldwide, than to the interests of their own nations. Denying the Jewish people their right to self-determination, e.g., by claiming that the existence of a State of Israel is a racist endeavor. Applying double standards by requiring of it a behavior not expected or demanded of any other democratic nation. Using the symbols and images associated with classic antisemitism (e.g., claims of Jews killing Jesus or blood libel) to characterize Israel or Israelis. Drawing comparisons of contemporary Israeli policy to that of the Nazis. Holding Jews collectively responsible for actions of the state of Israel. Lets take a peek at something posted yesterday. It can best be described as a disgusting antisemitic screed, and here is the conclusion: So let’s keep giving off fucking billions to the Zionists in charge who are cleaning out the Palestinians, kicking thousands upon thousands out of their homes and replacing them with Israelis and Jewish guys named Bob from Brooklyn to live in the West Bank for free in a Palestinian family house that had been passed town a Palestinian family for generations, all the while supplying Israelis with FREE healthcare and FREE schooling at the same time. For starters, note the conflation of Israeli and Jewish, that is important here. This run on rant of a sentence manages to hit 4 of the above examples all at once. It would be impressive if it wasn’t so full of vile antisemitic hatred. The whole post manages to hit 7 of the 11 bullet points. And the author keeps on going in the comments too. At least they are consistent. Speaking of the comments, there are several users who try to educate the antisemities among us. I appplaud their valiant but doomed efforts. But its worth noting that most of the time, the replies to those comments are full of exactly the same antisemitism as the original diary, which leads to my final point, even though its not on the IHRA bullet points. Jews are not monolithic. Yes, there are Jews who agree with the antisemitic points made here and elsewhere. I do not call anyone “self hating” as a commenter said we all do. However, as another commenter mentioned, the vast majority of Jews, well over 80%, consider ourselves Zionists. And when we say something masquerading as “antizionsism” is antisemitic, we speak from our own experience as Jews, experiencing antisemitism. And then we get shouted down. I just help but wonder how many of you saying we are wrong would say that to a trans person calling something transphobic. Or a black person calling something racist. Or a...you know what? Accepting what minorities say about their life and experience is something everyone on this site would do in a heartbeat, except regarding Jews. None of you about to tell me how wrong I am would dream of telling a gay kid that they are not being discriminated against. But Jews you have no problem at all. There is a word for that attitude. It is ANTISEMITISM. And there is a word for those who treat Jews in that way. It is ANTISEMITE. If you feel triggered by all this, go look in the fucking mirror. And then resolve to be a better person.
