Goodbye, Cruel KOS: I Need A Break [1]

Please don’t bojo me, the headline is a joke. Mostly. The first part is a joke, the second part isn’t. (I just have a terrible sense of humor and think the extreme drama of “goodbye, cruel Kos!” is hilarious.)



Basically I’m worn out by the news right now. The right is an unmoving morass, the war in Israel is bringing out the worst in some folks here (and way worse on my Tumblr, holy shit the block game right now is like playing whack-a-mole), the climate made my summer almost unsurvivable, and basically at the moment everything feels like death by a thousand paper cuts. I was in the middle of writing a climate roundup diary to go live in a week and a half and literally stopped midsentence and went “what’s the fucking point? What does this even matter?” And, well, the answer is it does matter, a lot, but for me that personal reaction sets off more alarm bells than the Great Chicago Fire. (Were there alarm bells during the Great Chicago Fire? There must have been.) I know me, and when the righteous fury simmers down to exhausted embers there is a problem.



Something’s gotta give, and it’s gonna be my DKos activity for a little while. Put on your own air mask, etc. So I’m dipping for a little while. I’ll hang out for a couple hours until bedtime to reply to anyone who comments, but after that I probably won’t be back for a week or two. Y’all behave while I’m gone, okay? No activity that requires you to call the fire department, put on a hazmat suit, or say a bunch of Hail Marys for penitence. (Is that actually a thing or is that just in movies?) If Marjorie Taylor Greene and Lauren Boebert finally lose it and decide to get into a stabbing match remember to put on your PPE before entering the cleanup zone and removing prion disease proteins requires a five-minute soak in a 40% bleach solution.

Drink your milk, brush your teeth, wear your mask, get your vaccine, and I’ll be back soon.
