I Don’t Believe in the Death Penalty, But... [1]

I have been thinking about this since COVID. If the Fox Entertainment Network, Tucker, and the former fuhrer are responsible for 1/10 of the COVID deaths, they are responsible for approximately 100,000 people dying, assuming around a million people dead. Even if it is 1/100, that is 10,000. In the United States, no terrorist attack, no natural disaster, nothing has caused so much suffering in the last seventy five years, and I have not even begun to think about climate change and the future and how many more deaths will result from Republican talking points. It is not just the dying; it is the stress, the sense of hopelessness, the sheer futility of caring about people being held accountable, the waves of pain that radiate from Republican policies.

It seems like the former fuhrer wants clerks, judges, and lawyers to be killed. It seems like he also wanted his Vice President, or anyone else, killed on January 6 so he could take control. It doesn’t seem like he values human life except to further his own agenda. One can make the argument that individuals make their own choices, about vaccines and about masks and about taking money, and not getting paid, from someone who revels in the misfortune of others, but there is still the matter of how this country will never be the same. Families have splintered; congress is useless; the Supreme Court is a parody of itself. Don’t we punish those who do not show remorse more than those who do?

I don’t believe in the death penalty, but...
