[1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-10-22 This diary may not be popular with some on here — too bad. The truth is the truth and the truth is this: What those Hamas savages did was a war crime and if I had my way every single one of those savages who killed adults, chidren, babies and even animals (animals!) would be hunted down and killed. Their savagery was extraordinary, obscene, shocking. What Israel is doing is collective punishment and it too is a war crime. I weep for the innocent dead on both sides and I have immense hatred for those who have brought us to this place. I hate the leaders and terrorists of Hamas. I hate those in Israel like Netanyahu, his far right allies, the far right religious fanatics and the far right settlers whose actions have allowed Hamas to flourish. They have pushed and pushed and pushed the Palestinians into a corner and guess what? This is happens when one does that. The winners of this are Hamas and Israel’s far right — they got what they wanted — a war. The losers — all those poor, suffering people on both sides whose agonies I have witnessed these past two week and whose suffering makes one weep and scream with frustration at one’s inability to do anything about it. They’re the ones I care about. I understand Israel’s rage — I do. I understand the rage of those who are not Hamas supporters as their families are blown to bits around them. Israel will invade — that is certain. What is also certain is that many more lives will be lost. But what is uncertain and in fact is most doubtful is the outcome. The Israelis will kill many Hamas terrorists and many innocent Palestinians. While Hamas operations will be affected for some time, perhaps a long time, it will regain strength and come back. And those who support the Palestinian cause will watch the misery that will unfold and their views on Israel and the West will harden even more. There is no military solution to this — nothing permanent anyway — and I write as someone who served in the army (not US) as an infantry officer. It’s ultimately a dead end. The only possible way to have prevented this was have two the sides — Israel and Palestinian prepared to negotiate in good faith. But that is now further away than ever. And one last thing — the Abraham Accords bullshit. There is no ‘peace' in the Middle East possible without Palestinian buy-in. Trump wanted the Nobel Peace prize and his slimy son In law wanted to make money out of the ME. Doing deals with Gulf states was garbage — they were mainly meant to isolate Iran. Meaningless, at least when it came to peace between Israel and the Palestinians. At least that bullshit has been exposed for the fraud it was. What is to come doesn’t bear thinking about just as what has already happened. I despair.
