Ghana- Baby Vicky is Nine Months Old This Month [1]

It was just about a year ago today that Zenabu and her husband Haddi came to my friend John in the Buduburam Refugee Camp in Ghana asking for help. She was in the last stages of pregnancy and suffering severe pains.

The next three months were agony. We had very little money to help them and Zenabu and Haddi themselves didn’t even have enough to buy food to eat. It was a very difficult pregnancy and Zenabu wound up in the hospital again and again. One night she was so ill that we all thought she was going to die.

But Zenabu is a tough, tough woman and she made it through. On January 31, 2023, she gave birth to a little daughter they later named Vicky.

Haddi and Zenabu are still, of course, very poor. Their goal is to have a small refrigerator so that they can sell iced water and fruit drinks on the street for a little money. But like most goals this will have to wait.

Anyway John went to visit the little family last week and take them a bit of money to keep them going. He took some photos and I thought y’all might to see how little Vicky is doing. I don’t think she’s quite walking yet but she’s getting close.

Haddi was ill that day and didn’t come out of the house, incidentally. But Zenabu looks much, much better in these photos than she did. Even with all their current difficulties, I think she is finally recovering from the hard pregnancy she went through.

Thought you might enjoy. Not an ending, but sometimes stories have good parts in them.
