Is This America?

I have lived a long time, through many changes, wars (not on our soil), recessions, assassinations, political upheaval etc. I’ve been an activist all my life, and never, ever have I seen the entire world on the brink of catastrophe. I blame the recent mess mostly on Trump, but not all of it.

Trump opened the door for hate and extreme prejudice and misogyny and in general, vile, classless behavior and endless lies. And, all those of the same mind/ilk came rushing out to be seen and acknowledged.

I have so often heard “This is not who we are.” about his followers, yet apparently it is who many of us are. I can’t blame Trump for that, a failing education system for decades and lack of critical thinkers and those who feel cheated finally had a mouthpiece, albeit a very ignorant one.

So here we are, everything is broken, we are fiercely divided, dangerously so. There’s the No Speaker issue, Ukraine, Roe vs. Wade, a Supreme Court accountable to NO ONE, guns available to EVERYONE, a healthcare worker shortage, a teacher shortage, and of course the powder keg in the Mideast.

So, this happened yesterday, thus “Is This America?”. I have a huge collection of shirts, sweatshirts etc. all making some sort of political statement. In the past they have started conversations, been made fun of, and on a few occasions really upset some people. I live in the South. I had to go to the grocery store and realized I had nothing to wear that might cause things to get ugly really fast in my open carry State. So, here in America, I was self-censoring. NEVER EVER have I felt that way. But sadly, This Is America.
