Farewell Washington Post: Dems should not vote for a Republican speaker [1]

Washington Post editorial headline: Democrats should help elect a Republican Speaker

I have a mixed opinion of the Washington Post. On the plus side, I think there’s value in having well resourced national/international news organizations that aim to reach a general audience, and within that category of news orgs, I think the Washington Post is pretty good. On the minus side, their reporting often seems slapdash, and I don’t like the idea of depending on an organization owned by a business magnate (as most large news organizations are). However, I took sympathy on them a year ago after Musk banned some of their reporters from Twitter, and it looked like the Washington Post might be the vanguard for news organizations moving to free social media (“free as in speech”). I subscribed to help support them through this transition, but now a year has gone by with no meaningful progress.

Finally, to top if off they printed an editorial today chastising the Democrats for refusing to grant concessions to a group of unprincipled and/or unhinged power-mongers that is absolutely failing to govern. Every nominee that the Republicans have proposed for speaker (McCarthy, Scalise, Jordon) have supported Trump through his coup plotting, and should be viewed as mortal enemies by Democrats. Tom Emmer is the only vaguely reasonable person they have considered, and his nomination was sabotaged immediately by the GOP’s glorious leader.

I have no idea where the Washington Post is coming from with this idea, but I don’t care to follow them anymore, and they will no longer get my money.
