FANA ATTENDS EMERGENCY WORLD CLIMATE CRISIS SUMMIT FOR INDIGENOUS PEOPLES [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-10-25 On October 5, 2023, The Polynesian Kingdom of Atooi Kingdom of Hawaii, The Federation of Aboriginal Nations of the Americas (FANA), and the International Council of First Nations held an emergency Zoom conference to address the World Climate Crisis Summit. FANA’s Ambassador and Attache to Mexico, Central and South Americas, Mr. Guadalupe Casas Acosta Mazatzin D. H. C, was instrumental in putting together this international emergency meeting to discuss how the changes in Climate are affecting the Indigenous populations. He worked endless hours to pull this event together in a very short time. He reached out to a host of Indigenous Chiefs and Organizations. Thanks to his tireless efforts, attending this conference were FANA’s Minister of International Affairs and FANA’s Ambassador to the UN, Principal Chief Dr. Ronald Yonaguska Holloway; and FANA’s Director of Indigenous Affairs & Cultural Outreach to the UN, Marie Lorena Cosme were in attendance. There were representatives from Mexico, Peru, New Zealand, Bolivia, Columbia, and the USA. Special Guest Javier Cruz Butron Asakua Iya who is the coordinator of the Gran Chaco Americano addressed the Climate Crisis in the American Chaco of the Guarani Nation at the Conference. He has been speaking out against the destruction of the second-largest rainforest in South America. The participants discussed how the drought conditions were causing dwindling food harvests amongst the Indigenous peoples. Also discussed were the concerns over the water contamination that was spreading through the Indigenous waterways. They spoke about how to come together on solutions that will lessen and reverse the impact on Indigenous communities.
