1-Indigenous Americans

Instead of working together we [the original “white” immigrants] demeaned their culture and called them savages, which led to the land grab and slaughter. I will leave this to our great writers on D-Kos to write about the past and present injustices, they are better informed than I am.

2- The Slave Trade

We regarded them as sub-human savages to be used as we saw fit, they were easily identified by the color of their skin. We even fought a civil war in part about this issue. Once again I’ll leave this to other writers.

3-Women .

The patriarchal system was maintained, and eventually they “gave” us our rights, ha, no, we won them. I and others have continued to write about this.

4- Waves of immigrants

Each wave of immigrants has been regarded as lesser by those already here until they themselves grew numerous enough to resist.

Eventually in 1968 with the Civil Rights Act, we all seemed to heading in the right direction.

The LGBT+ community started to gain the same rights

Women almost gained equality.

Other races seemed to be on the right track to gain full equality

Hope was on the up. Progression! Democracy!

*********HOWEVER********

The forces of regression are having their revenge.

The authoritarian and the white supremacist right have weaseled their way into power through division, chaos, money, and the media.

They threaten our very democracy and hence the hard-fought rights that a majority have won.

If this can happen here.

Then it can happen everywhere.

Beware of valuing one life over another.
