Boomer Aspirations [1]

Yeah, my generation was self-indulgent (sex, drugs, rock-n-roll) and self-absorbed (“take a trip inside your mind”). We cheerfully drove cars that got 12 mpg. But, there was an aspiring element to the 60’s and 70’s. The idea that we should strive to become better … better individuals, a better society, maybe a better human race. We could become more generous, patient, accepting, understanding, supportive, and loving. This was reflected in some of the popular music.

I think the sentiment was a victim of the rage against The War. Reagan brought us “greed is good” along with the corruption and pettiness that accompanied it. I miss even the aspiration to improve ourselves.
