[1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-10-27 This seems pretty concerning. According to this article in today's Guardian, Dems might be poised to lose Michigan in 2024 over Biden’s strident support of Israel. This is because the Arab American community in Dearborn is experiencing buyer’s remorse for having supported Biden in 2020. Watching in horror as the US supports Israel in its bombing campaign against Gaza, many Arab Americans are saying that what they are feeling goes “beyond betrayal.” “This is a complete loss of humanity, it is the active support of a genocide, and I don’t think it gets any worse than that,” said Huwaida Arraf, a Palestinian American activist and attorney. “I’ve gotten a few comments, ‘Well, the GOP is going to be worse,’ and my question is: ‘How can you get worse than active support of a genocide?’” The Arab Americans the Guardian spoke to said they did not know of anyone in their circle who would vote for Biden in 2024. This is significant given that Michigan is a critical swing state and home to 300,000 Arab Americans. Biden beat Trump there in 2020 by about 150,000 votes, so a loss of Arab American support could be devastating. Biden was seen as better than Trump, but next time Michigan’s Arab American community might reconsider, and leave the top of the ticket blank, or vote third party. They are “horrified” and “furious” that Arab American tax dollars are going to bomb Gaza, and see the US’s support of Israel as “shocking.” “Even our conservative members voted for Biden, only to get a guy who dehumanizes us, who is sending the weapons to Israel, and the only purpose of these weapons is to use Palestinian as target practice,” Ahwal said. “I don’t know anybody who would vote for him.” Still, the Biden administration has remained steadfastly supportive of Israel, proposing $14bn in aid; providing weapons such as missiles and armored personnel carriers; refusing calls for a ceasefire; and deploying US troops to the region. A Data for Progress poll released Thursday found 66% of Americans think the US should call for a ceasefire. As one person who spoke to the Guardian put it, “They came into our community and asked us to vote for Joe Biden and save America from Donald Trump, and now we feel like we have to save Palestine from Joe Biden.” [END] --- [1] Url: https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2023/10/27/2202102/-Could-Dems-lose-Michigan-in-2024-over-support-of-Israel?pm_campaign=front_page&pm_source=more_community&pm_medium=web Published and (C) by Daily Kos Content appears here under this condition or license: Site content may be used for any purpose without permission unless otherwise specified. via Magical.Fish Gopher News Feeds: gopher://magical.fish/1/feeds/news/dailykos/
