Musings for Friday - You Can Call Me Johnson [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-10-27 I’m not sure you have to be of a certain age to know about Raymond J. Johnson Jr., but it helps. Not getting the joke was lampooned on King of the Hill, so I get it if you don’t. x No, but we're about to. Everything from his pre-school days to the present is about to be presented to the public. The spotlight is on. Every public utterance. Every recorded word. Every time he's asked a question and refuses to give an answer, the deeper they'll dig. — Tony Gattis 🇺🇦😷💉x6 (@TexDem_Dkos) October 27, 2023 Congressman (now Speaker of the House) Mike Johnson seemed to appear out of nowhere, because no one, even his fellow members of U.S. House of Representatives knew who he was. Well that’s about to change. The above Xeet (pronouced sheet, because some saw fit to change Twitter to Xitter, pronounced shitter) was in response to Mr. Cross’ in a small thread begun by Mr. Mann. Both seem to know Mr. Johnson. But you don’t have to call him Johnson, you can call him Mr. Speaker. Well Mr. Speaker? Are you ready for your colonoscopy? You’re about to receive one very public exam. And like I said above; Every time you’re asked a question and refuse to respond, the media will dig deeper into your life. You can’t hide out on Faux Noise forever, you’re not some backbencher looking for attention, you’re the Speaker of the House, you’ve got a huge spotlight on you. The DC media are a petty bunch, they don’t like being ignore by powerful people. The days of talking only before friendly crowds are over. x Speaker Mike Johnson tonight: “Someone asked me today in the media, ‘People are curious, what does Mike Johnson think about any issue?’ I said, ‘Well, go pick up a Bible off your shelf and read it. That’s my worldview.” pic.twitter.com/ylMWX1XVJy — Ron Filipkowski (@RonFilipkowski) October 27, 2023 Trae gets it. x ON NEW HOUSE SPEAKER MAGA MIKE JOHNSON pic.twitter.com/sFgF5CPv5l — Trae Crowder (@traecrowder) October 26, 2023 More… x An interesting thing about Sean Hannity's interview with Mike Johnson is that he gave the new speaker a ton of room to kick the can on abortion to after the 2024 election because he knows that the limiting factor in instituting bans will be whether Republicans win more elections. pic.twitter.com/tkSHXjWFgh — Matthew Gertz (@MattGertz) October 27, 2023 Greg Sargent on Johnson… x It gets worse: Mike Johnson has repeatedly pushed the ugly lie that Dems have deliberately "opened" our borders to convert "illegals" into voters. On this he's the most extreme Speaker in recent memory. I've documented many examples here. 1/ (free link)https://t.co/UlttlKaUmt — Greg Sargent (@ThePlumLineGS) October 27, 2023 By the way, if someone has a free link, please post it. Sargent’s piece is behind a paywall. x MARK MY WORDS: House Republicans will bitterly regret the day they chose Mike Johnson as speaker. Americans know next to nothing about him now, but that’s about to change. His extreme-MAGA views are SO bigoted and SO far out of the mainstream that most will find them abhorrent. pic.twitter.com/3QwEXx5IeX — Jon Cooper (@joncoopertweets) October 26, 2023 And more. x 1/ Note, when Mike Johnson and others nostalgize the days when we "respected life" (before Roe), prayed in school and didn't teach evolution (which has been taught for 100 years), they ignore the fundamental immorality of segregation & lynching supported by Christians at the time — Tim Wise (@timjacobwise) October 27, 2023 x I think the news coming out of last night's Hannity interview with Speaker Mike Johnson is that Republicans are demanding spending cuts to offset funding for Israel (and I assume Ukraine). pic.twitter.com/i99AfCBu2q — Matthew Gertz (@MattGertz) October 27, 2023 Also a paywall. x The more you learn about Mike Johnson and the religious extremist movement of which he is now the most prominent part, the more scared you should be. These are dangerous people with more power than ever before. My latest. https://t.co/ygi8ANrfGj — David Rothkopf (@djrothkopf) October 26, 2023 x Bone-chilling! In this interview with historian Ruth Ben-Ghiat Ruth, preeminent expert on fascism, she has a grave warning about new “Christo-fascist”Speaker Mike Johnson. Don’t miss it! Link for the entire video below! pic.twitter.com/FOFIas7qT6 — Mary L Trump (@MaryLTrump) October 27, 2023 We don’t live in a democracy according to our new Speaker. x Republicans’ new Speaker, Mike Johnson: “We don’t live in a democracy,” we live in a “biblical” republic. pic.twitter.com/pirbCaJIBL — No Lie with Brian Tyler Cohen (@NoLieWithBTC) October 26, 2023 x Mike Johnson Is The Least Vetted Speaker In Modern History->A veritable field day for oppo researchers and investigative journos: An inexperienced backbencher who’s never faced a serious election challenge is suddenly 2d in line to the presidency.https://t.co/NLjEtDkZpj via @TPM — David Kurtz (@TPM_dk) October 27, 2023 This next one is probably the most intriguing. He has a black son he and his wife “adopted off the street” 22 years ago when Mike and his newlywed adopted 14 year old Michael. They were in their mid twenties. x I couldn't figure out why Speaker Johnson's black son doesn't appear in any of his family photos or campaign bio. So I did some digging. https://t.co/7cjwntmTPm via @TPM — Josh Marshall (@joshtpm) October 27, 2023 There’s more, but you get the idea. It’s been less than a week, it’s just getting started.
