PWB Peeps Fee--line Fine Fridai [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-10-27 Hello being new let me introduce myself, I’m Wisp, like will-o’-the-wisp because my hoomin says with my medium gray fur I seem to sometimes disappear into a surface, like my favorite living room chair a pale green velour. She sometimes has to take a second look, silly hoomin I’m always here — somewhere. First the rules A gentle reminder of how we do things: 🐱🐶🐦 Do not troll the diary. If we alert you to it, please remember that we do have phobic peeps who react strongly to them. If you keep posting banned pics...well then...the Tigress will have to take matters in hand. Or, paw. Hello, Wisp here again, now let me tell you the story of my hoomin’s grandparents, right paw raised I swear the following is true as told to my hoomin. They lived in rural Virginia, mid 1920’s; the grandfather worked the late shift at the railroad I think, and often walked home across neighbors’ fields, they all knew him, and one didn’t just shoot at a solitary stroller who was more likely to be a neighbor. One bright moonlit night walking across a dark lonely field surrounded by trees, the grandfather spotted a horse, unseen before that night just on the other side of the fence. Curious, he walked toward the moonlit creature, yet as he got closer, the horse seem to disappear. Time to investigate later: a big sandwich was waiting for him. Grandmother always left a hearty snack for him after his night shift. He wondered if it would be another hefty roast beef sandwich the way he liked, bread smothered with plenty of homemade butter. Every night for a while the horse would appear. One night grandfather decided to see if the lonely creature needed help. Yet again as he got closer the lonely creature would seem to disappear, and sure enough, as he got to the fence there was no horse there. This is rural Virginia, thought he, and such occurrences are not unknown; best avoid getting too close to horse or fence ever again. The Sandwich Always the grandmother would leave a sandwich for grandfather when he returned from work. Without fail, always, never wavering in her duty, yet one night, no sandwich. Just the plate and some crumbs. Later that day he the told grandmother how disappointing she hadn’t put out a sandwich. Why yes, she very emphatically insisted, a nice fat sandwich was waiting as always. A mystery brewing? Curious. That night the same occurrence — plate with crumbs, but no sandwich. Well this was nuisance: of course there is always a sandwich. Again that night grandmother set out a nice thick sandwich, again grandfather found no sandwich, just an empty plate with a few crumbs. Was someone getting into the house when her husband was working? Grandmother with a neighbor decided to end the mystery once and for all. They stayed up watching through a crack in the kitchen door. At first — nothing. Then the faint sound of rustling, very faint, then suddenly tic, tic, tic — what was that? A large fat rat helped itself to her nice, hefty sandwich, leaving only the plate with a few crumbs. Mystery solved, and my grandfather, who was known as the handyman extraordinaire, found the opening. I don’t know what happened to the rat creature, but it never got another sandwich from their kitchen. Happy Halloween. A friendly note please remember, to the extent possible, keep your black cats indoors near and on All Hallow’s Eve.
