Nickname nonsense [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-10-28 I can think of any number of pseudonyms I could use on this site. Can’t we all?! And, like the late great Jimmy Durante used to say: “I got a million of ‘em!” So, I’ve been called a thing or two in my day. But I won’t go into detail for reasons which which I will likewise not disclose. But, what I will reveal is a few of the nicknames that I have been called that actually stuck. Probably the most relatable is Wick. Now, you may ask, why Wick? I’ll answer that by saying that another of my nicknames was Jack B. Nimble. Are you getting the picture here? As a kid, one muse used to poke fun at my last name by referencing something to the effect of, in a purely innocuous way, that it should be snuffed out. Get it? Kandel. Snuffed out. Pretty clever fella, that jokester was. Then there was the name Rod. That was given to me by a fellow high school class mate. I apparently earned that one because in one of the neighborhood baseball games we used to scrape together, I was catcher. At the time, Jimi Hendrix, for those who remember, was a in-vogue musician. So, being that I played catcher, and since the Baltimore Orioles baseball team catcher’s name was Elrod Hendrix, in putting two and two together, my high school buddy arrived at the nickname Rod. So, I gotta tell you, he was the only one that ever called me that. I never questioned it. In college, another ingenious soul assigned to me his pick, which, in this case just happened to be kandelabria. No explanation needed here. But, of all the monikers I’ve been given, the one, I guess, that seems to be the next most relatable, is Big Al, even though I’m not exactly what you would call big. Which is strange considering an on-the-job-chosen nickname picked for me by a former boss of mine was Bubba. If it’s Bubba he chooses, then Bubba it is. Besides, one doesn’t argue with the boss as the the higher-up, you know, always knows best. Any questions?
