A Way Out of the Darkness [1]

The horrors of the I/P conflict are being felt deeply everywhere. In our own country, a dark pall has descended enveloping some people from all walks of life and backgrounds. The horrific killing of a six year old Palestinian-American boy and the stabbing of his mother by their landlord in Chicago and the anti-Semitic death threats received by Jewish-American students at Cornell University are some recent examples of this phenomenon. The desire to stifle even reasoned and civil debate, out of fear that one’s preferred policy position will lose favor, is another unhealthy effect. Having said that, the suffering in Gaza and Israel is clearly several orders of magnitude higher. Nevertheless, “a group of Jews and Arabs in Israel has a radical idea—protecting one another as fear reigns”. This is the title of an article I found on NBC news. The courageous individuals discussed in the article found a path out of the darkness. We would be wise to follow their example.
