[1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-10-30 After weeks of drifting, the US House wafts into the clouds. Without bothering to cite chapters, verses, or books, shiny new Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) declares “the Bible is very clear that God is the One who raises up those in authority.” Translation: enough of this of/by/for the people stuff; we need to bring back divine right to rule. That is, ‘my way or the highway to hell, amen.’ Granted, Johnson pays lip service to all federal legislators. God “raised up each of you, all of us,” he pontificates, “and [has] allowed each of us to be brought here [to the Capitol].” Whoa. In Johnson’s mind, could He have disallowed the new status quo that lifts Johnson from the back benches to the apex of political fire-and-brimstone? If so, could He likewise have stopped the psychotic strongman Kim Jong-un (with whom Donald Trump says he “fell in love”) from ascending to starve-or-slaughter scads of North Koreans? Speaking of Trump, let’s make bold to resolve the 80-ton Godzilla in our lately ravaged Rotunda. Did the Lord raise up His hand to stop the J6 coup attempt? And to thwart the nation-trumping Johnson’s own baseless, quixotic, seditious lawsuit seeking to invalidate millions of lawful, eligible votes? Hint: YOU’D BETTER BELIEVE HE DID! Against President Biden, Johnson has spoken with a knife-and-forked tongue. Bellyaching from beyond the Twilight Zone, he spouted the triple-cheese whopper that Venezuela’s Hugo Chavez (who died in March, 2013) somehow reached up from the grave to fudge our 2020 election. (Go figure.) So. Did God “raise up” Chavez from the dead? Is Johnson angling to become Big Blonder’s running mate? While claiming to embody the Way, the Truth, and the Life, will this Speaker ever approach Trump’s yearly average of 7600 documented lies in a position of power? For now, let it be stressed. Reading between the lines in blood-red caps, Johnson’s maiden spiel as Speaker boils down to ‘Trump won in 2016. I believe God raised him up for life. Therefore, Mr. Biden had no business having the un-Godly gall to defeat him. So there.’ A half-century ago, one of my US Senators opposed the Trump-presaging tyranny of Richard “Not A Crook” Nixon (R). Doing so, Charles Mathias (R-MD) did the right thing- DESPITE BEING REPUBLICAN. In all, he was a decent, Constitution-abiding American. Neither Johnson nor Trump is any such thing. (Not even close.) If Dems don’t inform the electorate of the gravity of our ever-more-theocratic plight and lead it to act and vote accordingly, who on Earth will?
