(Maybe my winning “Most Likely to Become President” in my 8th grade class had something to do with that?) After his speech at the 2004 Democratic National Convention, I even expected that it would be Barack Hussein Obama. While I did not expect President Obama to run so early, in 2008, most people were surprised that Barack Hussein Obama won the Iowa Caucuses. I was not. I followed the news. I followed the polls. I knew that after the Ohio presidential race was called for Obama that there was pretty much a 90%+ chance that he would become President. But still, as prepared that I have been for that day, November 4, 2008, for decades, I was unprepared for the moment when it happened. Take it away Keith Olbermann... I cried at that moment on November 4, 2008. My eyes are welling up now and they well up every time I watch this. I was at one of my best friends house when Iowa was called at 10pm and I asked her if she wanted to take the train to Grant Park. She thought about it and said no. I’m glad I heard Olbermann’s call the 2008 election for Obama. And no, I did not like everything that Obama did when he served as the 44th President of the United States; far from it. But I do think that we are a better country because Barack Hussein Obama served as President. One final thing: Yes, the same country that elected Barack Hussein Obama also narrowly elected Donald John Trump. I have never seen the election of Donald Trump as a contradiction of the election of Barack Obama. Never. To paraphrase the greatest poet this country has ever seen (perhaps): We contain multitudes. My evenings at the helm, I try reeeeallllyy hard to publish everything without regard to content. I really do, even when I disagree personally with any given nomination. "TopCommentness" lies in the eyes of the nominator and of you, the reader - I leave the decision to you. I do not publish self-nominations (ie your own comments) and if I ruled the world, we'd all build community, supporting and uplifting instead of tearing our fellow Kossacks down. Please remember that comment inclusion in Top Comments does not constitute support or endorsement by diarist, formatter, Top Comments writers or DailyKos. Questions, complaints or comments?
