[1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-11-06 You cannot un-skew what is already screwed. One wouldn’t know that the NY Times poll, showing Trump leading in several crucial states, oversampled Republicans. It so oversampled Republicans that it had to be “weighted” in various Rube-Goldbergian ways to make it closer to something approaching an accurate snapshot. The fact that THIS WAS NOT MENTIONED in the initial reporting about the poll is very telling: you have to dig into the dataset to find this information. I am not saying that Biden isn’t facing strong headwinds coming into this election; That is always the case, but this suggests how far the New York Times is willing to go to “skew” information to create a certain impression. The impression, by the way, is one that neatly comports with its loathing for Biden, The Democratic Party, and the working class in general. You would think these polling/media companies would care about transparency and democracy, especially in light of their own imploded reputations after the last election— but alas, they don’t seem to give a toss. The Times would also have us believe that Trump’s immanent rise is due to whites ( or blacks), or to Democratic Party “disarray,” or to ageism, or to migrants, or foreign aid to Israel and Ukraine. The Times wants us to believe that young folk don’t have nuanced sense of Israel- or the act of voting- and it must, at all costs, align this dark view of the country with the “data.” Except the data has been misrepresented. In short, if you start with a bullshit premise, you get a bullshit conclusion. Now, I am pretty cynical, but suggesting that after the shit-show of GOP fascism, people ( % 42 of women!) according to this awful pre-skewed Republican poll, are going to come out for Trump en masse, is simply flat-out bullshit. To say it a year out from the actual election makes the poll result even more demented. As with its editorial policy of bending over for Republicans and lunatics at all cost, so it is with the supposedly neutral realm of numbers...talk about making facts fit the imagined reality. Here is how poll participants identify.
