Big wins Tuesday. Let's keep building momentum! [1]

Democrat Andy Beshear was re-elected Governor of Kentucky, proving once again that Democrats can win, even in deep red states, when they have a strong candidate.

Across the board, Democrats and progressive policy positions did very well Tuesday.

In the only Federal race on Tuesday, Democrat Gabriel Amo won the House seat vacated by David Cicilline in RI-01 by 30 points.

Women’s rights won big in Ohio, with the voters enshrining protections for women’s control over their reproductive decisions into the state constitution, and the same for the legalization of marijuana.

In very closely-watched races in Virginia, Democrats retained control of the State Senate and took the House, preventing Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R) from passing a 15-week abortion ban as he had promised.

Democrats also retained control in the New Jersey State House. New York City Council seats up for election were dominated by Democratic wins, along with Democratic wins for Erie County (Buffalo) County Executive, and with wins in Albany and Monroe Counties. As of this writing, Democrats have taken the majority of New York Supreme Court races. In Pennsylvania, Democrat Daniel McCaffery won the State Supreme Court seat, and Progressive champion Sarah Innamorato won a close race for the powerful Allegheny County Executive position!

Finally, the Houston Mayor’s election that featured over 15 candidates will go to a run-off between two Democrats, including progressive icon and former U.S. House Rep. and Progressive Caucus Member Sheila Jackson-Lee.

So, deep breaths, folks, Democrats are doing just fine!

Remember: regardless of what the pundits say, the only poll that really counts is the one that closes on Tuesday.
