Overheard in NYC -- Kid: "Why is that boy dressed like a lady?" [1]

New York City is famous for being a hub for creatives, artists, and people who can unashamedly express who they truly are. The city is like that largely because of the many open-minded people who live there alongside others that are different from themselves. This father was overheard talking to his son about a male-presenting person dressed in women’s clothing. His response to his child’s question was beyond heartwarming.

When his child asked why the man was dressed in women’s clothing, he addressed the question head-on. Instead of trying to quickly change the subject or say something mean-spirited, this dad simply explained that the man was “too fabulous for one gender.” His answer is such a simple way to explain to a kid that gender isn’t binary, and people have many different ways of expressing themselves.
