Another Saturday Night - Serendipity [1]

Welcome to another Saturday night of music, memories, and conversations. Last week we shared music about space, stars, and celestial bodies. This week, we'll post music that just popped into your consciousness, like a meteor shooting across the sky.

One afternoon, I was listening to the radio and heard a song – I liked it, but I figured I wouldn't hear it again. It wasn't by a group I recognized, and it might have been played because a DJ went off-script and didn't play a song off of the corporate playlist. I searched for months, including finding another group that I liked (but they didn’t play the song I was looking for) ,but finally found this song by an un-Googleable band – On, “Slingshot”.

WhenI was little, I was a weird kid. I fell asleep to the sound of talk radio on KDKA in Pittsburgh. One of the songs they played at the end of the hour (probably as the host was preparing the newscast/newscasters for their newsbreak on the hour) was an instrumental I liked. It was the first jazz piece I remember hearing. It was Dave Brubeck, “Take Five”.

Four years ago, I was preparing a mixtape for a possible soundtrack for my favorite comic, “Henchgirl”. I picked a Veruca Salt song,“Shimmer Like a Girl” as one of the cuts. YouTube suggested another band if I liked Veruca Salt – guess what it was? Skating Polly, “Pretective Boy”.
