AZ MAGA Rep Votes to Defund Another Woman of Color, with Defund the Veep Vote [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-11-11 The roadrunner has returned. Having just barely dodged a 1962 Chrysler LeBaron with, believe it or not, a Goldwater ‘64 bumper sticker still affixed, as I was jetting across Route 66 near the Holbrook Safeway, I have to confess I’m feeling a bit miffed at Republicans again. Now I’ll give the LeBaron driver this much, when Barry got his butt kicked by LBJ in 1964, you didn’t see Mr. Goldwater saying the election was stolen and sending his supporters to the Capitol to crash the gates, chanting “Hang William Miller!” (Miller was Goldwater’s running mate in 1964. Don’t feel bad, I a roadrunner who dabbles in Arizona human politics more than the average bird, had to look it up too). So, Mr. driver with your cool vintage car and its outdated bumper adhesive politics, and who doesn’t brake for roadrunners, you’re excused, but you’ve turned me into an angry bird. Therefore, I might as well take this time to call out yet again my MAGA-Congressman and the rest of the Arizona GOP delegation (minus one) for their latest defunding stunt. As you may recall, MAGA Congressman Eli Crane made a revealing gaffe on the House floor referring to African-Americans in the military as “colored people”, and as documented here, he followed that up with sponsoring a bill to cut Council on Environmental Quality Chair Branda Mallory’s salary to $1 a year. As you might’ve guessed, she is African-American. 94 percent of you who read the snarky scribblings of a desert bird said that was racist. Well, at the risk or reviving the memory of a Britney Spears track, “oops he did it again”, by voting to defund Vice President Kamala Harris’ Office of the Vice President. Not just her salary, but that of her staff and other expenses; the whole nine yards. Of course, this time Mr. Crane wasn’t the lead sponsor, and he wasn’t alone in his endeavor, as 106 Republican House members opted to support the measure to defund the Office of the Vice Presidency. In the Arizona delegation, Crane was joined by his colleagues David Schweikert, Andy Biggs, Deb Lesko, and Paul Gosar. The lone Arizona House Republican who didn’t say let’s make Kamala Harris and her staff work for free, was “coincidentally” the non-white member of the Arizona GOP delegation, Juan Ciscomani. Go figure. Given the GOP’s zeal to defund much of the Biden administration’s senior staff, Rep, Crane will surely argue sponsoring legislation to cut a black woman’s salary to $1, and his support to gut the budget of another woman of color aren’t signs of racism, they are just signs that he doesn’t think black women currently holding senior positions should get paid. Get it, he’s not racist, he just does racist stuff? Oh, never mind. But in any case, shouldn’t members of Congress be focused on more important things? I’ll close with my usual pitch to please help Representative Crane endure some consequences for his shenanigans by considering a contribution to his opponent, Democratic Congressional candidate Jonathan Nez. Mr. Nez is the former Navajo Nation president, and a decent man who will put aside drama, division, and targeting women of color for 100% pay cuts. Instead of playing games with administration paychecks, he will focus on the meaningful functions of government seeking to unite people rather than divide them. If you’d like to help retire Eli Crane after his first term, you can contribute to his opponent, Jonathan Nez here. www.jonathannezforaz.com Thank you for reading, recommending, and supporting.
