[1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-11-14 So much for the “happy warrior” Tim Scott. Staffers and campaign workers were blindsided by Scott’s sudden announcement to drop out of the race for president. They had to find out about it from watching the news! It appears some big time supporters of Scott had been worrying for a while now that Scott was disorganized and shitty at retail politics (think of it as the anti-qualities needed to run a presidentia campaign). And finally, late night comedians had a field day dumping on Tim Scott’s announcement to quit. And I just had to laugh about it all. First, staffers and campaign workers from the Tim Scott campaign were not given a heads up about his withdrawal. ‘I’ve seen better run city council campaigns’: Tim Scott’s allies fume after exit The South Carolina senator told just two campaign staff members of his plan to drop out. Do tell? When Tim Scott announced the end of his presidential bid from the studio of his house in Hanahan, S.C., some campaign aides and allies of the senator joked among themselves that the abrupt exit was fitting. For months, Scott’s campaign, mired in low single digits, had been beset by a lack of organization and poor communication about the campaign’s strategy, said one Republican operative supporting Scott. And compared to some of his Republican rivals, Scott had hardly been aggressive with campaign travel. It made sense, the operative said, that “Tim, from his home studio, made this announcement without the staff knowing.” But even if it might have been on brand for a campaign lacking clear direction, and with a principal who frustrated some of his own top allies for his reluctance to do more retail campaigning, Scott’s abrupt departure from the race was no less bitter for those staffing him, nine staff members and other allies of Scott’s campaign told POLITICO. “I think this was handled incredibly poorly,” said one Scott campaign official, who found out after being alerted by others watching Scott’s interview on Fox News. What a minute? You mean besides not letting his own campaign workers first BEFORE he made his announcement, his other “allies’ are saying now he sucked at retail politics? I think the fact that he didn’t bother to tel his staffers and campaign workers first confirms that the happy warrior isn’t good at dealing with people one on one. And what about the fate of those workers for Scott? Well,… On Sunday night, Scott told just two campaign staff members — campaign manager Jennifer DeCasper, and communications director Nathan Brand — of his plan to drop out, according to a senior adviser granted anonymity to speak freely. The rest of the team, including high-level advisers, found out on live television, or as their phones were bombarded with messages. “The tears I’ve seen in the mirror on my cheeks is because I never want to disappoint the team that has moved around the country for this vision and for this mission, sacrificed lunches and friendships, just so you can be available to work hard for this country, and through me as a conduit of that,” Scott told his team on a Zoom call immediately after his announcement, according to a recording obtained by POLITICO. He was scheduled to visit staff at the campaign headquarters on Monday. Tearing up on the call, DeCasper, Scott’s longtime aide who was running her first presidential campaign, assured staffers that they would receive more information Monday about their severance packages. She said she would “make sure everything is taken care of.” Scott himself promised the team that as they “depart from this campaign, we are not going to just cut you off,” vowing to “do our very best to take care of the folks here.” Some of those people have just moved to IA to work for Scott. But don’t worry, the man of the people — who said that all the UAW members who went on strike should be fired! — won’t let you down! Can you imagine having had to move to IA from SC, and now, it was all for nothing! While Scott’s campaign workers get the shaft, did anyone else higher up in the GOP think that Scott’s campaign sucked? “I’ve seen better run city council campaigns,” quipped a GOP operative supporting Scott in the primary. “A lot of people were pissed last night. The right thing to do is give your staff 30 minutes of notice and have a conference call beforehand. It was typical of the whole effort.” And FOX even had this on their website. The stuff with Scott starts at time 1:35: Late night host Stephen Colbert mocked Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C. for invoking God as he announced the suspension of his presidential campaign. Scott joined Fox News' Trey Gowdy on Sunday to announce that he would be ending his campaign. Scott said during the interview that he believed the Lord called on him to run. "That’s what the Lord put on my heart. I think I was called to run. I was not called to win, but I certainly was called to run," he said. "Let me get this straight. The Lord called you to run so He could watch you lose? It’s like that famous poster, ‘when there was only one set of footprints, that’s when I shoved you in the ocean and chuckled while you flailed,’" Colbert joked. Then, we have this from The Daily Beast: Leslie Jones just nails Tim Scott. Now, some in the media are saying that Scott is “nice.” Fuck that shit. His positions are anything but nice, and I’m tired of the false piety of Republicans, especially those runnning for president. God did not tell Scott to run for the White House. Nor did he tell Mike Pence to run. It’s just their ego and ambition talking to them. Scott and Pence NEVER had a chance to get the Republican nomination. And it wasn’t because of the orange baboon running either. Everyone HATED Pence. And while Scott will tell anyone who will bother to listen that Republicans do not practice racism, it’s all lies and bullshit. There was no way that Republicans were ever going to nominate a black man for president. Period. So I feel Scott deserves every bit of derision he is experiencing right now.
