Israeli media with details about the Qatar-led, Israel-Hamas deal [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-11-21 Since I’ve seen a couple of the articles but none of them go into details, here is what Israeli media is reporting (sorry, link leads to a Hebrew article): The Israeli government is aiming to accept the deal (my guess is its already been accepted by Hamas) brokered by Qatar (and the US). After acceptance, Israeli civilians have 24 hours to object to the deal (families of people hurt by the released Palestinian prisoners). Assuming the Israeli Supreme Court will not intervene (which it never has before, this is just a legal formality) — the deal will look as such (again, based on this report): Starting Thursday, Hamas will release 50 Israeli hostages — specifically Israeli children, mothers and elderly women, of their choice — while Israel will release 150 Palestinian prisoners — underage (or very young adult, it’s not clear) men, and women who were not convicted of murder. This will happen in pulses during 4 days, during which a temporary ceasefire will be in effect. The reason for the inclusion of elderly women in the initial phase (as opposed to just children and their mothers), is that Hamas claims that it knows the location of only 30 children and eight mothers out of the approximately 50 held in the Gaza Strip. According to this article, the rest the children and mothers are being held by other factions in Gaza. Hamas claim that they will use the first 4 days of the ceasefire to locate the others, in preparation for the possibility of expanding the deal. It is expected that during the first 4 days of the ceasefire, about 12 Israeli hostages will be released every day. On the fifth day, Hamas will announce if it has found additional hostages during the 4 days of the ceasefire, and for every 10 additional hostages they find and release, Israel agrees to continue the temporary ceasefire by an additional day (note: for every 1 additional Israeli hostage, 3 additional Palestinian prisoners will also be released). In addition, 41 foreign workers are held in Gaza, who are not included in the current deal. Although the deal focuses on children and women, Hamas will not release kidnapped female soldiers. Hamas has five of them. As part of the agreement with Israel, Hamas has agreed to allow the Red Cross to visit the hostages and transfer medicine to them. On each day of the ceasefire, 4 fuel trucks, 4 gas trucks and 200 trucks of humanitarian equipment will enter Gaza, and Israel will stop intelligence gathering for six hours (i.e. no overhead flying).
