[1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-11-23 Hope can be a terrible thing. Our history has seen many stalemates. The natural solution to stalemates is a compromise. What destroys one's will to compromise? Futile hope. The belief that absolute victory is possible. That's why all of us are guilty. It's we who give Israeli fundamentalists the hope of total "victory". It's also we who give Hamas the hope of annihilation of Israel. What was Hamas' end goal of the Oct 7 attack? You can hear it from the mouth of Hamas' own leaders with a simple Google search: They assumed that Israel would retaliate, and they also assumed that the Arab world would be forced to unite against Israeli retaliation. Thus, they calculated that Israel would get crushed by massive simultaneous attacks from all directions. And why do Israeli settlers keep getting more audacious in their attacks against Palestinians? What makes their right-wing confident in handling the Palestinians who act in desperation? The belief that they can get the Western powers to give them total and unconditional support for an absolute victory. It is well documented that Netanyahu himself helped and funded the Hamas control of Gaza. In his own words, Hamas in Gaza are better for Israel than PLO or any other relatively liberal-secular coalition—Because Hamas are radicals and it would be impossible for the west to accept them. On the other hand, PLO or such would give legitimacy to the Palestine moment in the eyes of the west. So this is a battle between two warmongering radical right-wings in Israel and Palestine. The silent left-wings on both sides, who just want peace and a future for their kids, are "intentional collateral" damage. Not only are both these right-wings willing to let their countries tear apart for their fancies, they would also be happy to watch the whole world burn for their delusions. There are more ways than "hope" that the west nudged this conflict. Trump had general Suleimani of Iran assassinated. This Iranian general was fighting against ISIS. I repeat, Trump ASSASINATED an IRANian general who was fighting AGAINST ISIS. Iran swore revenge "at the right time", and very predictably upped its funding for Hamas and Hezbollah. While we are at it, Trump also emboldened Putin by demeaning NATO. So there is a good case to make that he is responsible for both Israel and Ukraine wars. Funny that the American right wing claims that he caused no wars and that Biden caused wars. Israeli and Palestinian populations are not too different. Israel has roughly 9 million and the Palestinians around there are known to number around 5 million. Such similar numbers indicate that a compromise is the only solution. A one state solution, or two state solution, or whatever. But neither the right-wing elements of Israel, nor the right wing elements of Hamas want any of these solutions. Neither want "freedom". Both want annihilation of the other side because apparently, that's what God promised them both. At the end of the day, Israel and Palestinians are only doing what we should naturally expect from them when we prop up their right-wings. The only solution to this conflict, in my opinion, is that the international community should unequivocally send them both the message that this is just their battle. Qatar, Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon and other Arab countries will have to ultimately come to a deal with the US and west to declare simultaneously that there will be no more support flowing to either side anymore. That should force a reckoning between the two neighbors that they are stuck with each other for eternity, and that they'd better compromise. Those of us protesting in support of either side are fanning the flames. Those of us who aren't taking sides and being silent in the face of all the gory violence are actually "almost" doing the right thing. The only step we should take further is to try and push our governments to stop giving hope to fanatics on either side. The US president is attempting to do good by communicating with all Arab leaders. I think he needs to do much more of that.
