[1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-11-26 This graph shows two things about our death rates. First it gets away from having to learn demography to understand it because the dots show our deaths rates as a percent of Canada’s. For example, that top dot for age group 35 through 39 is 199.55 percent as high as Canadians aged 35 through 39. This graph tells us we can say for age 35 through 39 our death rate is almost twice as high as Canada’s. Second, since the red, Republican, dots average about twice as as the blue, Democratic, ones, we can say that our death rates in Republican voting states is about twice as much higher than Canada in Republican voting states as it is in Democratic voting states. But instead of being rather imprecise by guessing at what it shows, I will calculate how many and what percent of the deaths in Democratic and Republican voting states would not have happened if we had experienced Canada’s death rate. First the Democratic states: They experienced 696,501 deaths in 2019. If they experienced the Canadian death rate they would have experienced 574,840. That is 121,661, or 17.5 percent, fewer. In the Republican voting states they experienced 612,375 deaths in 2019, if they experienced Canada’s death rate that number would have been 407,969 or 204,403 fewer. That would have been 33.4 percent fewer Republican voting state deaths. Well my above estimate of twice the Democratic 17.5 is 35 so my crude estimate based on looking at the graph of a Republican death rate twice as high was a bit high. Two additional comments: First notice that the highest red and blue dots are for the middle age. I can only think of one thing that can be causing this pattern is the private health insurance practice of denying care. The problem is I cannot find data to directly measure it. But I feel these increased deaths justify the federal government making Medicare universal. By causing these extra deaths the private health insurance industry has simply disqualified itself, letting them continue is no worse than sentencing all convicted murders to work as police officers for the rest of their lives. I have excluded the mixed party states, the states by party are listed below. And now a final note: The United States spends 2.2 times as much per capita on health care as Canada does. www.healthsystemtracker.org/… Democratic states: Ca, Co, Ct, De, Hi, Il, Me, Md, Ma, Nv, NJ, NM, NY, Or, RI, Vt, Va, Wa. Republican states: Ak, Ar, Fl, Id, In, Ka, Ky, La, Ms, Mo, Mt, Ne, ND, Ok, SC, SD, Tn, Ut, Va, Wy.
