All About Henry (Kissinger) [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-11-30 Henry Kissinger won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1973 for ending the Vietnam War. Hogwash. The North Vietnamese were forced to the Peace Table by the United States Air Force. Operation Linebacker was the first continuous bombing of North Vietnam since 1968. It started in May of 1972 and ended in October 1972. Kissinger declared Peace was at hand. But it wasn’t. North Vietnam backed out of a proposed peace treaty. Nixon stated we’ll bomb the bastards like they’ve never seen. So operation Linebacker II began. And this time North Vietnam did come to the Peace Table. The United States could have conducted this operation at any time. It owned the skies in Vietnam. North Vietnam had no viable Air Force. Operation Linebacker and Linebacker II destroyed North Vietnam’s ability to support the war effort. Ports where ammunitions from North Vietnam’s allies arrived were destroyed. North Vietnam could not receive more weapons. Bridges were bombed. North Vietnam could not transport its remaining supplies to the front lines. Make no mistake, the American Armed forces created the peace talks resulting in our troops coming home on March 29, 1973. Henry Kissinger, who wasn't even in favor of this bombing, had nothing to do with it. The question is, this operation could have begun at any time, in 1965, 1966, 1967, 1968 etc. Why did it take so long? What changed to make it happen now? Tricky Dick Nixon needed an angry country, a divided country, to win in 68. Nixon sabotaged the 1968 peace talks, bribing the South Vietnamese to leave the peace talks one day before the U.S. Presidential Election. This made Nixon personally responsible for every GI who was killed or wounded after 1968, about 30,000 American deaths. It was what happened at Kent State in 1970 that led to the bombings, which created the peace. God Bless their souls.
