"Israel's Budgetary Sleight of Hand" [1]

Dov S. Zakheim, senior adviser at the Center for Strategic and International Studies and vice chairman of the board for the Foreign Policy Research Institute has just written an article for the Hill in which he sounds the alarm about what Israel’s Finance Minister Smotrich has planned for our generous aid to that country. “Smotrich will add $81 million for the ultra-Orthodox private school system, and $105 million to improve security for West Bank settlers” to annex Palestinian land. This is problematic as the funds were supposed to be used only to combat the Hamas terror operations in the Gaza strip when the US President agreed to the funds. Although Benny Gantz and five of his members voted against Smotrich’s plan, Bibi’s extremist coalition won the day. As Zakheim argues, “There is no better word to describe Jerusalem’s behavior other than as the height of chutzpah.” Read Zakheim’s article here thehill.com/…

As everyone knows, the temporary pause has given way to a resumption of Israeli war attacks in South Gaza where 1 million+ civilians are stuck. Now, that Smotrich has been given the imprimatur of the Knesset to proceed with his annexation plan with our funds, the Palestinians of the West Bank are left with the short end of the stick, yet again.
