With Major Endorsements and Party Backing, Rob Menendez is Resurrected [1] ['Aaron Morrill', 'More Aaron Morrill'] Date: 2023-12-02 21:15:02+00:00 With endorsements from Hudson County Executive-elect Craig Guy, Union City Mayor Brian Stack and the Hudson County Democratic Organization, Rep. Rob Menendez’s reelection prospects have gone from bleak to good, according to observers. The endorsements were first reported yesterday by Hudson County View. The backing from local heavyweights give new meaning to the biblical injunction that “the son shall not bear the iniquity of the father.” In this case the father, Sen. Robert Menendez, has become a political albatross around the neck of Menendez-the-younger following his indictment in September for accepting cash, gold bars and a luxury car from New Jersey businessmen who sought the senator’s help on foreign affairs. A superseding indictment filed in October, alleges that he conspired to act as a foreign agent of Egypt. Tammy Murphy, the wife of Governor Phil Murphy, and Rep. Andy Kim have launched campaigns challenging Senator Menendez. “The sharks are seeing blood in the water… they’re going to link him to has dad unfortunately” says Blog Talk Radio host Fernando Uribe of Rob Menendez. Nonetheless, Uribe thinks the endorsements make sense and could get him over the finish line. “If you get the county line, that’s half the battle won” he notes, referring to the controversial New Jersey practice of placing the choice of county political organizations in a single column called the “line” below national candidates such as Joe Biden. A federal lawsuit is challenging the practice and some research has shown that being grouped with well known national candidates confers a substantial advantage on lesser known local candidates. Several possible challengers to Rob Menendez have emerged including Hoboken mayor Ravi Bhalla, Jersey City Ward E Councilman James Solomon and Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez. Businessman Kyle Jassy announced last month that he would run for the seat. Unsurprisingly, Menendez seems pleased with the support he’s getting. “I am so honored to have the support of the Hudson County Democratic Organization, its Chairman, Anthony Vainieri, and to collaborate with our incredible group of leaders. I am also grateful to have the endorsement of Mayor Stack. I consider Mayor Stack a role model as he has put his constituents over his own political ambition and has served them exceptionally well. I am also thankful for Jersey City’s own County Executive-Elect Guy’s support, who is a great friend and an amazing partner in county government.” [END] --- [1] Url: https://jcitytimes.com/with-major-endorsements-and-party-backing-rob-menendez-is-resurrected/ Published and (C) by Daily Kos Content appears here under this condition or license: Site content may be used for any purpose without permission unless otherwise specified. via Magical.Fish Gopher News Feeds: gopher://magical.fish/1/feeds/news/dailykos/
