Class vs Identity Politics in advancing a left agenda [1]

A month ago a panel discussion was put on in England by Novara Media, a very "left" viewer-supported news organization. The subject was how to reconcile the different priorities of groups based on "class" and those based on "identity", and how to get them working together to further progressive programs. I thought that the ideas they presented would be just as applicable in the US.

From left to right in the video the participants are:

Ash Sarkar - contributing editor at Novara Media. She is the daughter of Bengali immigrants. She is very articulate and makes several insightful points.

Aaron Bastani, co-founder of Novara Media, acting as host. His father came from Iran.

Dan Evans - from Wales, a union organizer, sociologist, and author of "A Nation of Shopkeepers: The Unstoppable Rise of the Petite Bourgeoisie".

Liam Norton - an activist with Just Stop Oil

All of these people are Marxists of one form or another and use the terminology in their presentations. Ask if you do not understand something. I can't help you with the very non-posh English accents, but here is a cheat sheet:

Home Counties: the counties immediately surrounding London.

The Midlands: the counties up in the center of England.

ULEZ: The Ultra Low Emission Zone, a clean-air rule that applies around London. It charges a surcharge tax to drive a highly polluting vehicle within its area. There was a proposal to extend this rule to the suburbs in a recent election and that proposal LOST, which the Tories jumped on to show how people were opposed to the climate agenda.

JSO - Just Stop Oil, an activist anti-fossil-fuel group.

XR - Extinction Rebellion, an activist climate emergency group.

Electorialism: This word has several meanings but the way they use it here is in its Marxist sense, the tendency to concentrate on winning elections as the way to change government policies.
