DK Quilt Guild: Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-12-03 As I was writing this Saturday night, the format on my Mac changed to the mobile app. So everything got really small. I can’t figure out how to fix it so it’s been a challenge to get this done. I think I’m going to have to do this in two parts, so I’ll continue it next week. Just a warning… this may be a little long because I couldn’t decide what photos to use, so I narrowed it down to my favorites. _________________________________________ DK Quilt Guild: A place for quilters to gather, share ideas, projects, and to make the world a better place, one quilt at a time. Join us and share your thoughts, projects, questions, and tips. Quilters here are at many different levels of skill. Beginners and non-quilters are welcome, too. We NEED diarists! Your diary can be elaborate and full of photos, a simple story of your own quilting history or that of someone you love, a discussion of a current project or a technique you're learning, new adventures... You could post quilt retreat-day recipes (things like crockpot meals, so food appears without much attention from you)… We could do show and tell or open thread, also, but either way, we need diarists to host. It is EASY if you're willing to take the chance. We NEED diarists! The theme that year was “Folk Singing in Quilting”. First a little history/ information about SOQS… It was founded in 1975 by Jean Wells who had just opened her quilt shop The Stitchin' Post. SOQS is held on the second Saturday in July and there is Quilter’s Affair that’s held the 5 days before the Show. It consists of workshops, lectures and other fun events. We got there on Friday so that we could go to the picnic at the City Park. This is when we found out how big an event this really was. 2004 theme “Folk Singing in Quilting” Mural at Village Green City Park Then in the afternoon we were able to attend a lecture (Trunk Show) with Flavin Glover who takes Log Cabin quilts to a whole different level. Mom and Flavin Glover…. Quilt is named “Moms and Babes” She had tons to show along with displaying some her patterns. Log Cabin pattern variations That evening we attended the Show and Tell where anyone could get up to show off some of their handy work. Mom showed her small wall hanging. which was really hard to see in the full auditorium. You could tell we were amateurs to the whole Sisters thing. DiamondBack World Series 2001 CD holder. The center block holds a CD that isn’t actually in the photo. 15”x15”. With pins from various ballparks. Saturday came and it was time for the Big Event. Since our hotel was several towns over and the traffic was surprising, we got there mid-morning. It was next to impossible to find a place to park. We thought we were prepared having attended the picnic, lecture and evening program but it was overwhelming that every building in town was covered with quilts. I think we walked miles that day. Town Square Stitchin’ Post Quilt Shop — where it all started Music Quilts They did avoid putting quilts on the porta-potties but still got them up on the liquor store behind My photos don’t really do the town justice and I had to select a just a few… otherwise we’d be here all evening. And there was even something for the guys to enjoy! I’m going to end it there now. Next week I’ll show some of the quilts that were entered as Theme Quilts. I hope you enjoyed another long diary. Once again, I’m looking forward to hearing what you’ve been up to, quilting or otherwise. I’ll see you in the comments.
