Arrivederci, Amazon [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-12-10 As of today, I am no longer an Amazon Prime member, and will no longer be buying from Amazon. Here are the reasons: . 1) Substandard products from substandard providers. Yes, there are a lot of quality products, but there are a lot of crap products too. And, sometimes, you can't even tell the good from the bad. I have been burned too many times. Bought a pair of Italian boots a couple of years ago. Very first day the heel came off one of them. I took them to a shoe repair shop and paid to have them fixed. And, just as the return window expired, a hole appeared in the toe of of them them, and it was not repairable. Since it was ONE DAY outside the return window, I was stuck with shoes that were no longer wearable. Another time I bought Fruit of the Loom pajamas from another seller on Amazon. Turned out that they were not Fruit of the Loom, but I Chinese knock off. One of the pockets on the bottom had a hole in it, and a few weeks later, the stitching on one leg came off. It's been like that with several products that went bad just outside the return window. I did have one product, a juicer, that broke just days after I received it. I gave a bad review, and the seller ended up replacing it free of charge, but stories like this are the exception, not the rule. With Amazon, it's Caveat Emptor, baby, all the way. . 2) Amazon treats it's employees like shit. Imagine working in a warehouse where you have to work as fast as you possibly can, and are not allowed to even go to the bathroom. Welcome to Amazon. And those who have attempted to form unions in order to get better pay and benefits, and to be treated as human beings, have been fired without cause. I cannot support this. . 3) Yes, I will admit it, I became a PRIME member because I am..... la.... laz.... damn it, lazy.... there I said it. I realized that I would not be having all these problems with quality if I just got off my ass and did my own shopping locally. And, getting off my ass also means no longer supporting a corporation that is vehemently anti-Union. OK, problem solved. Brick and mortar, here I come. . 4) Rather than spend my money at a corporation that doesn't give two shits about anything except maximizing profits, I am now shopping local Mom and Pop stores when the product I want is available there. If what I want is not available at a Mom and Pop store, I will still be getting it locally, even if it means that I must use a local Wal-Mart once in a while. But no more Amazon for me..... EVER. .
