Remarks by President Biden on the War in Gaza [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-12-13 I do not agree with many of the things the United States and President Biden are doing in response to the war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, although I do agree with Biden on four points he made at a campaign reception on December 12, 2023. (1) The Hamas attack on Israel on October 7th was horrific and the leadership of Hamas should be held accountable for its actions. (2) It is not justifiable to punish all Palestinians for the actions of Hamas. (3) World opinion which largely supported Israel after the October 7th attack has shifted away from Israel because of the magnitude of the bombing of Gaza and the civilian death toll. (4) The only end to decades of conflict in the region is the two-state solution with independent Israeli and Palestinian nations. Despite his remarks, the United States continues to supply Israel with offensive weapons it is using to destroy Gaza cities, weapons that have caused almost 20,000 civilian casualties. The United States also vetoed a United Nations Security Council resolution calling for an immediate cease fire in the war and voted against the resolution in the General Assembly because Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu will not accept it. These actions threaten to focus global anger against the United States. You can read the entire statement by President Biden online. It is a relatively long speech and he does not discuss the war in Gaza until the end.
