[1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-12-14 Will Biden’s support of Israel cause Trump to win the 2024 Presidential Election ? This diary is conducting a poll in an attempt to judge how much, if any, the issue of Israel will affect the election. The Israel-Hamas War has divided Democrats among those who support Israel’s actions and those who oppose them. Joe Biden has been strongly supportive of Israel, despite his calls for Israeli restraint and his disagreements with Benjamin Netanyahu. Will his support of Israel cause Trump to win the 2024 Presidential election ? And, how will this support affect the appeal of the third party candidates ? This diary is an attempt to judge how much, if any, the issue of Israel will affect the election. It asks a simple question as to how YOU will vote if the position of the candidates on Israel remains the same. [Please note that the author is NOT a pollster nor has any relation to pollsters. The author is not affiliated with any of the potential candidates.] THE CANDIDATES The presumptive candidates that will be on the ballot are: Joe Biden — Democrat Donald Trump — Republican Robert Kennedy Jr. — Independent Jill Stein — Green Unknown — Libertarian Joe Biden faces little opposition for the Democratic nomination. Donald Trump is currently the leading candidate for the Republican nomination. While he may be derailed by his legal problems sometime in 2024, until this occurs he must be considered the presumptive Republican nominee. Robert Kennedy Jr. appears to be determined to run for President. Jill Stein is currently the leading candidate for the Green Party nomination, although this could change. The Libertarian candidate for President is yet to be determined. There are a number of potential candidates vying for the nomination with no clear favorite. The other options are to vote for someone else, or not to vote. The CANDIDATES SUPPORT of ISRAEL Joe Biden has been strongly supportive of Israel from the start of the war. Although he wants Israel to be more careful to avoid injuring and killing civilians in Gaza, and despite his strong disagreements with Benjamin Netanyahu, he continues to provide arms and support to Israel. Donald Trump has been and continues to be a very strong supporter of Israel. Robert Kennedy Jr. is a very strong supporter of Israel Jill Stein is a long time, and very strong, opponent of US support of Israel. This diary will wait until the likely Libertarian candidate is better defined before discussing their view on Israel. SOME CONCERNS One of the major concerns of the Democrats is maintaining their unity. The issue of Israel’s war with Hamas is a wedge in the party. A recent poll found 44% of those who support Democrats approve of Biden’s handling of the war, but 33% oppose it, with 20% undecided (11/27 to 12/3). How many of these 33% who disapprove of Biden’s support of Israel will move to one of the other third party candidates, or simply not vote ? Both Biden's and Trump’s current approval rating among all voters is low — 38.6% for Biden and 42% for Trump as of Dec. 13. Will their support of Israel drive voters to third party candidates ? Or, will their low approval ratings simply mean that regardless of Israel, voters will look to third party candidates, or just take a pass on voting in 2024 ? If yes to either or both of these questions, will this hurt Biden or Trump more ? The POLL In an attempt to try and provide some insight to the answers to these questions, there is a poll that asks you to vote at this stage of the race. The poll asks a simple question, but with a number of choices. It may be easy for some to answer, but hard for others. Thank you for voting.
