CDC Covid-19 State of the Pandemic -- Dec 16 [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-12-16 Last week I was concerned about the fairly dramatic uptick in new hospitalizations for Covid-19 as reported to the CDC in their Data Tracker — a nearly 20% jump over the previous week’s report. And while this was still barely half the level reached at the beginning of 2023, I was worried it might be the start of a new exponential surge. Fortunately, that no longer looks quite so likely since this week’s increase came in at barely 3%. Even better, the center of the current resurgence (CDC Region 5 consisting of IL, IN, MI, MN, OH, WI) was essentially flat in terms of new hospitalizations. Indeed, only two regions still saw double digit increases this week. Nonetheless, this could be just a brief pause on the all too familiar Up escalator, so I’ll wait to see what clues next week’s data may have to offer in terms of direction.
