Richard Grenell thinks calling out Trump's fascistic comments amount to 'fomenting violence' [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-12-20 Let’s not beat around the bush. When Donald Trump called his political opponents “vermin” last month and claimed that immigrants were “poisoning the blood of our country” last weekend, he veered into full-on fascism. He was quite literally borrowing rhetoric used in the past by Hitler and Mussolini. But as I note on my Substack, if it were up to Trump’s ambassador to Germany, Richard Grenell, we wouldn’t be allowed to say that. When Grenell saw a panel on MSNBC’s “Deadline: White House” join the growing outcry against Trump’s comments at a MAGA rally in New Hampshire, he hit the cieling. To Grenell’s mind, calling out Trump’s outright fascist comments amounts to—wait for it—“fomenting violence” against Trump. In case you missed it on Monday night, guest host Ali Velshi and several MSNBC contributors called out Trump’s comments for the disturbing and outright fascist bile that they were. Watch here. Velshi noted that when Trump railed about immigrants being “poison,” he “dispensed” with his usual penchant for dog whistling and was “just going for it.” Princeton University professor Eddie Glaude added that Trump was using his campaign as a vehicle for “an anti-democratic project.” Former Rep. David Jolly called for the country to have “a cultural conversation” on whether this is acceptable conduct for someone with ambitions of being president. The harshest criticism, though, came from former Senator Claire McCaskill, who called Trump’s comments a reminder of “horrific shadows from history.” All of this apparently spun Grenell into a conniption fit worthy of his dear one. x Reporters appearing on @MSNBC should have to answer for that cable outlet’s incredible and radical activism. The NBC Board must be held accountable for MSNBC’s actions. It isn’t a news organization. It actively works for the Ruling Party non-stop. It is completely controlled… — Richard Grenell (@RichardGrenell) December 18, 2023 Wait a minute. Calling out Trump’s racist and overtly fascist rhetoric not only amounts to “fomenting violence” against Trump, but is “reprehensible,” “dishonest,” and “unAmerican”? This would be downright laughable in and of itself. But consider what we know about Grenell's boss. Eight years of giving succor to violence culminated when Trump ranted and raved about having a second term stolen from him when all available evidence indicates he damned well knew he had lost, which ultimately led to him inciting the horror of Jan. 6. You want to know what’s “reprehensible,” “dishonest,” and “unAmerican,” Ambassador? Your suggestion that the press, and the American people at large, have no right to call out Trump’s rhetoric. I realize that being all-in for Trump at this point means you have no moral compass to speak of. But even allowing for that, this is disgraceful. With that tweet, Grenell showed that he was not fit to represent this country in any capacity. For further thoughts, head on over to my Substack, Loud, Liberal, Christian.
